This is an executive position responsible for the administration and management of the Dickson County Emergency Communications District (the “District”).  General duties include the planning, organizing, directing, and overall supervision of the dispatch center, addressing office, and information technology.  In addition, the Director will plan and coordinate the activities of city and county Police, Fire, and EMS service providers to meet the mutual objectives of the District’s emergency service providers.

Deputy Director

The Deputy Director functions as the second in command of the Department and assist the Director to ensure achievement of the overall mission through supervision of the operational and administrative functions. The member will serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence. The Deputy Director coordinates services with  Police, Fire, EMS Departments and County officials.  

The most important and essential job function of the position is an attitude which includes the following: interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.

911 Public Safety Telecommunicators and Call-Takers

Sumner County Emergency Communication Center is currently accepting applications for 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators and Call-takers. Candidates must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License, be able to type 40 words per minute (net) and possess either a GED or a high school diploma. The process consists of an oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological and job-related physical examinations and drug testing.

Brief Job Description: Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for information and assistance via telephone, radio, and written teletype. Direct calls to a source of assistance. Maintain constant status information on all police, fire, and EMS units via computer terminal. Operate complex computers, telephones, radios, audio recorders, 9-1-1 PSAP equipment and other technical equipment. Have access to extremely sensitive, confidential information. Work according to 24-hour scheduling with work hours subject to change according to demand. Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime, as necessary. Job duties include multiple simultaneous tasks that must be performed on demand. High liability and high stress factors are common. Excellent benefits package provided.

Salary for entry level Call-takers beginning at $15.00 per hour and increasing to Telecommunicator pay $16.44, upon successfully completion of training and promotion to Telecommunicator. There are opportunities for periodic pay increases, as well as great benefits (medical, vision, and dental). Our standard shifts are 12-hour shifts, 2 days on and 2 days off, 3 days on 3 days off. Public Safety Dispatcher/Jailer

Under supervision, receive emergency and non-emergency calls for service, determine urgency and priority, obtain the information and details regarding these requests, input data into computer system and dispatch police, fire, EMS and/or other services as appropriate. Process and monitor prisoners in municipal jail who have been arrested and awaiting trial or transferal. After appropriate training, provide medical instruction to the caller until the first responder arrives.
