The Executive Director serves as the agency's chief executive and operating officer of the nine­ member Emergency Communications Board. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Board. The Executive Director is charged with the day-to-day management of the Board's employees, implementing all actions approved by the Board and providing leadership and recommendations to the Board aimed at fulfilling its statutory mandates. The Executive

Director serves as the Board's spokesperson before state and federal government entities, public groups and the media.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

An ideal candidate for this position should possess significant experience in telecommunications policy and regulation, management, financial and accounting controls, emergency communications policy and technology and a thorough understanding of the intersection of E-911, industry trends, and federal telecommunications law and policy. A candidate should possess good public speaking skills, including the ability to effectively present statements and testimony before committees of the local legislative bodies, state 911 board, and the state legislature. A candidate should possess good analytical skills necessary for financial forecasting and budgeting. A candidate must also have the ability to work with and maintain good relations with the media and trade press, as well as national associations and policy groups.

 

EDUCATION

A Degree from an accredited college or university; equivalent work experience may be substituted for education. Professional continuing education in telecommunications policy, emergency communications, or management also desired.

SALARY: $19.70 Hourly $40,990.35 Annually OPENING DATE: 08/26/19 - CLOSING DATE: 10/04/19 DESCRIPTION: Under supervision, receive emergency and non-emergency calls for service, determine urgency and priority, obtain the information and details regarding these requests, input data into computer system and dispatch police, fire, EMS and/or other services as appropriate. Process and monitor prisoners in municipal jail who have been arrested and awaiting trial or transferal. After appropriate training, provide medical instruction to caller until first responder arrives.

Roane  County Emergency Communication Center accepts applications for 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators and Call-takers. Candidates must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License, be able to type 40 words per minute (net) and possess either a GED or a high school diploma. Candidates may be subject to an oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological and job-related physical examinations, and drug testing.

 

Brief Job Description: Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for information and assistance via telephone, radio, and written teletype. Direct calls to a source of assistance. Maintain constant status information on all police, fire, and EMS units via computer terminal. Operate complex computers, telephones, radios, audio recorders, 9-1-1 PSAP equipment, and other technical equipment. Have access to highly sensitive, confidential information. Work according to 24-hour scheduling with work hours subject to change according to demand. Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary. Job duties include multiple simultaneous tasks that must be performed on demand. High liability and high-stress factors are common. Excellent benefits package provided.

Public Safety Dispatcher

As the first line of response for citizens in distress, Public Safety Dispatchers serve as the critical lifeline between the public and law enforcement, fire and medical responders.  An applicant must have a high school diploma (or GED) and be able to complete a prescribed course of instruction by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which requires passing of a stringent background investigation.  Applicants must also be 18 years of age before the hire date and must be a citizen of the United States.

 

The current starting salary for a Public Safety Dispatcher is $36,233.60 per year with an additional 5% increase after a six-month probationary period.  Those candidates with public safety dispatcher experience may also be eligible for additional starting pay rate based on their qualifications
